Depression

Depression has been described by some as anger turned inwards towards ourselves rather than directed at others. Depression can stem in part from feeling helpless, or unable to stop painful events such as abuse. Depression is kept in place by focusing and replaying negative thoughts in our minds. Depression often involves negative thoughts about ourselves (criticisms of self), feelings of hopelessness, a pessimistic view of the future, as well as negative beliefs about the world in general
Self-Thoughts:

“I must be worthless for all of these things to have happened to me”

“I do not deserve to be happy”
Underneath depressed thoughts are often a strong belief that “I am worthless” or “I am no good”. This belief affects self-esteem and self-confidence.
Future thoughts, imagining the future in a negative way:

“What’s the use, why try, everything always turns out bad any way”
If we did not receive adequate love or nurture as a child, where we felt valued, we commonly form shame-based pain producing beliefs such as:
